I switched to the Z-Box hub when moving to a new home. I was previously using ST and felt I needed to switch to regain a little more "control" over the platform. When ST switched over to their new API/backend, I had lots of devices and automations that were no longer working. I didn't want to go through that again!
Once I worked through some of the logic and things that aren't quite as intuitive (but not hard) as the ST platform, I really, really like this platform. Every device I have connects and works as intended (so far) without the need for device type handlers, etc. I saw another review about the lack of control of the mobile device, but I like having more control on the computer side and less on the app. Works much better for my wife, as I can just keep what's on her device very simple by her request.
This is a much more powerful setup with a seemingly endless amount of opportunities for automation. Support has been great at helping me work through a device add problem (a very old and uncommon Z-Wave device) and also with a few programming questions. The interactive push notifications are a great feature for my family of 4 that allows a little more manual control. The app features a panel mode that is great for a small android tablet that sits in our living room and allows babysitters, our parents, etc. to have control over the house.
I only have 1 Zigbee device I still want to control and I can manage that with ST and an IFTTT integration.
Decent hub, but lacking compared to other brands when it comes to control on your mobile device. The app is pretty much just a way to monitor and turn devices on and off.
unable to do from the mobile app ...
-Remove, edit, or reset devices
-Program automation rules and scenes
-Add new rooms or sections for your smart home
-Create new alarm zones or notifications
-Add or remove users
-Access advanced settings for the hub or your devices
-Update firmware for your hub or end devices
Thank you for your honest feedback! Currently a lot of those functions are reserved to the Web UI for a more secure network, however we've passed on your notes to the developers to hopefully implement in the near future.
So for background I've been using Vera systems for about 7-8 years and got pretty comfortable with them - plus they have almost every imaginable app already built... but with a new home project in the works I decided to upgrade to something a little more current which led me to the Z-box hub.
At first I had a few connection issues and set it aside for a few weeks before really trying again. Once properly setup and updated its been OK. I'm hoping that adding the rest of the switches etc will build out a more reliable "network' to keep everything connected.
The hub has tons of options and truly is customizable - and that is probably my biggest issue so far as the info on how to add external devices (like a MyQ wifi garage door) just isn't there yet.
Overall I'm satisfied with it and think it will be better than my old Vera's once I get used to it and learn enough about it to really utilize it the way I want.
This product was easy to setup and add devices.
I have changed all my light switches to zooz z-wave switches and also have many z-wave sensors. The Z-box is the perfect hub for light automation. The devices can be added easily and the automation settings are very intuitive.
